The theme of my Prep School assembly last week was ‘High Hopes’ - encouraging us all to consider the importance of setting and working towards ambitious personal goals.
I started off by asking the children whether some of their happiest memories were of the days when they could go out dressed up as a superhero or their favourite Disney character?
There is definitely a joy in being able to escape into an imaginary world where you feel that you can do anything you set your mind to.
We discussed the idea that as we grow older, our role models change and we start to take notice of real people around us, as well as people from the worlds of music, sport and film for example. However, sometimes doubts can creep in and we feel that we may never achieve the things that our heroes have accomplished.
It’s then that it’s helpful to remember that success doesn’t happen overnight; in fact, they had to work their way to the top while doing other things along the way.
It has been great to see fixtures return with some excellent cricket being played. We were also able to welcome The Young Shakespeare Company into school and Year 8 have enjoyed rehearsals for the Senior school play ‘Treasure Island’. I would also like to congratulate all those who have taken music and LAMDA examinations.
In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy the very welcome sunshine!
