STEM - Teen Tech Innovation

This week at Felsted Prep, we ran our first Teen Tech Innovation session bringing together the digital, scientific and engineering world to life. The focus for the session was ‘Cyber Security’ and students had input from local and national employers in this field.  Our pupils learnt about emerging opportunities in this field and the technical and personal skills they would need for a career in this area.

The students are now completing a mini project on their chosen area of cyber security. The industry professionals will give our pupils live feedback next week on their work as well as allowing further opportunities for questions.

With so many advances in the STEM sector we are keen to raise awareness of the wide range of new and exciting opportunities available to our pupils. When asked who would be interested in a career in cyber security the whole class raised their hands!

Through our STEM programme we are able to give pupils opportunities to develop their creative thinking. Involvement in activities such as Teen Tech help our pupils to anticipate and identify real world problems and encourage them to think about how they can solve problems.  We aim to develop pupils who can take risks, learn from failure and persevere. Building a skill set where critical thinking, collaboration and communication allow them to work innovatively with others to bring ideas to life.

Our STEM activities aim to encourage students to think outside the box and create unique solutions for the challenges they are passionate about solving.Pupils have the vision, we support and encourage them in making it a reality and building the belief that they can make a difference. The pupils have won a raft of regional and national awards for their creative and innovative STEM work.

At the same time we are focusing on developing an awareness of emerging opportunities in this field and ensuring our pupils have a growing understanding of the new opportunities that will be available to them.  We are committed to developing STEM skills to create the next generation of leaders who have the ability and willingness to approach life with resourcefulness and problem solving at the heart of their thinking.
