Industrial Cadet Silver Awards for Team Boulderdash

Mr W Harding, Head of Prep DTE

In February 2020 of 6 Year 8 pupils (now Year 9) visited Harlow College to take part in the regional finals for the Land Rover 4x4 in schools technology challenge. ‘Team Boulderdash’, made up of Jack C, Tawana C, Harley M, Gus P, Sachiko S and Oliver W, designed and built a radio-controlled 4 wheel drive vehicle as prescribed by the challenge rules. The vehicle had to successfully navigate and complete obstacles on an off-road test track which was just as demanding as a real off-road situation. To further challenge students engineering skills & knowledge the competition rules also stipulated that the team car have a bespoke tow bar to tow a trailer around an equally challenging course and have automatic lights and a warning buzzer for terrain likely to cause the car to tip over.

Our team of budding engineers won the Team Showroom Award and the Best Engineered Car Award alongside the Silver Trophy for the Regional Final. This subsequently earned them a place at the National Finals which were sadly cancelled to the Covid 19 pandemic.

This week we heard that 'Team BoulderDash' members have been awarded 'Industrial Cadet Silver Awards' for their hard work leading up to the competition in preparing their vehicle.
