IB Update - Summer Term 2021

By Mrs K Woodhouse, Director of the IB Diploma at Felsted

It has been great to see all the IB students back in Felsted this term. The Lower Sixth completed their assessments at the end of April and are going to work on several key pieces of work this term including their Biology, Physics, Economics and Psychology IAs (coursework) and continuing to research and develop their Extended essays

I have also been very pleased to see the Upper Sixth IB students making such positive use of their time as they have completed final assessments and CAS and all of their work has now been submitted to the IB.

Our Upper Sixth IB have once again received excellent University offers from Oxbridge, many Russell Group Universities as well as several North American and European Universities. We have been really pleased to see IB students securing offers to read Medicine and Dentistry both in the UK and the EU.

The IB has recently published its UK Higher Education Outcomes report for 2021. The report compares the university outcomes of IB students with their A level counterparts, and makes the following headline points:

Compared to matched A level students, IB diploma students were three times more likely to enroll in a top 20 higher education institution (HEI) in the UK.

  • IB diploma students were also 21% more likely than matched A level students to continue to their second year of university study.
  • Upon completing university, IB diploma students were 7% more likely than their A level peers to achieve a first-class honours degree.
  • Similarly, IB diploma students were 40% more likely than matched A level students to obtain a first or upper second-class honours degree.
  • Six months after graduation, compared to matched A level students, IB diploma students were 38% more likely to be engaged in further study.
