Higher Education and Careers Fair

February can be a difficult month to maintain high levels of motivation but hopefully the Higher Education and Careers Fair, held on 2 February 2018, helped inspire our Year 11 pupils and Sixth Formers.

The L6 had recently received a presentation from Mrs Scofield as part of the ‘Futures’ programme, which looked at their options after Felsted. In addition to determining whether to undertake either a full time university degree or embark on full employment it is also now important to make informed decisions regarding Higher and Degree Apprenticeships.

Parents were also invited to attend the Fair with their children and those able to do so appreciated the opportunity. Felsted is very grateful to the time given by parents and OFs, plus those from the wider Felsted Network, for the benefit of our pupils. The banners and brochures were impressive but most importantly the feedback from the pupils has been very positive and they readily engaged in conversation with guests.

It was particularly pleasing to see Oli Coulson, Vicki Hiett and Marko Salopek, who are all young OFs, but had not attended the Fair previously. Several contacts for work experience were made and sound advice was provided to help pupils make informed decisions about their futures. The feedback from those representing universities and the different career sectors has also been pleasing, see below:

"I really enjoyed the event; a great interface for the pupils, particularly those in the Sixth Form interested in technical and commercial subjects, which would fit well into the automotive industry. I was impressed by their enthusiasm and desire to understand University options offering the best career development as graduates, and their desire to understand the global perspectives of the business, as well as the areas of growth in electrification of transportation and autonomous vehicle developments”

Alan Draper (Felsted Prep School parent and representing the Automotive Industry)

“It was really good and I’ve now got loads of contact details”
