German Exchange Visit - Osterholz-Scharmbeck Grammar School

Felsted Prep pupils were able to practise their German as they welcomed exchange pupils from Osterholz-Scharmbeck Grammar School. The pupils joined our young Felstedians for English, Science, Geography, German and Computer lessons as well as a fun Netball session and an exciting trip to London to the Natural History Museum, the Goethe Institute and the Royal Albert Hall.

Mrs Hitchcock gives a detailed account below….

We were sad to say goodbye to our German Exchange pupils and their two teachers from the Osterholz-Scharmbeck Grammar School near Bremen. It has been a busy week for the fifteen visitors and their Felsted Prep School host families. Arriving by plane on a very blustery Monday, the German pupils joined their hosts for lunch in the LRH and then moved on to English, Science, Geography or Computer lessons, followed by an ice- breaking session with the Yr 7 Germanists and then some relaxing time, creating friendship wristbands.

On Tuesday, they enjoyed a tour of the school, then provided perfect inspiration for Felsted Prep pupils to persevere with developing their German speaking skills in a Y8 German lesson and finally visited Freeport, Braintree, to buy presents and souvenirs. On Wednesday, host pupils and German visitors travelled the scenic route through London to the Natural History Museum, where they took part in a quiz in German provided by the Goethe Institute. Afterwards, we walked to the imposing Royal Albert Hall, the towering Prince Albert Memorial and the mindful Princess Diana Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park. On Thursday, Miss Barnes led the Yr 8 German Classes and their visitors in a netball session, which was a first for many and it was clearly enjoyed by all.

Thank you to all of our host families for their very kind hospitality and we hope that the pupils will keep in touch and keep developing their language skills.
