A Level Results 2024

A Level Results 2024

Felsted School is delighted to celebrate the exceptional achievements of its pupils in this year’s A Level examinations, marking another year of academic excellence and dedication.

With such impressive results, many pupils have secured places at some of the world’s leading universities, conservatoires, and prestigious apprenticeship programmes, including Cambridge, Oxford, Durham, Edinburgh, the Royal Veterinary College, UCL, Exeter, Nottingham, and universities across the US and Europe, as well as top conservatoires such as the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, and Royal Northern College of Music.

63% of all grades awarded were B or higher, with a third of all grades being awarded A or A*.

Chris Townsend, Felsted Head, shared his congratulations: “I am incredibly proud of the Class of 2024 for the hard work and determination put into achieving their A Level results. It is really encouraging to see so many Felstedians going off to some of the best universities around the world, as well as taking up some very exciting apprenticeship opportunities and others heading out directly into the workplace. We wish them every success as they embark on their next steps and look forward to seeing the positive difference they will make in the world.”

These results follow on from a strong set of International Baccalaureate Diploma results in July, where Felstedians achieved an impressive average score of almost 35 points, exceeding the global average of 30.3 and equivalent to 3 A*s at A Level per candidate.

Felsted A Level Key Highlights

  • When A Level and IB results are combined for this year group, almost 40% of entries are graded at A or higher
  • 91 students took A Levels at Felsted in 2024
  • 63% of all grades were A* to B
  • Many subjects achieved exceptional results; Chemistry, Music and Further Maths all achieved 100% A*-B, while Drama, Classical Civilisation, Art and Theology/Ethics/Philosophy all exceeded 80%.

This year, Felsted’s top achievers were Ambrose Lusty with A*A*A*B and Prefects Niamh Westwood and Toby Stringer who both achieved A*A*A* and an A* for the EPQ.

Ambrose joined Felsted in Year 9 with a scholarship at Junior Guildhall - where he was principal percussionist and winner of the percussion prize, he has been a keen member of the Felsted Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. Ambrose was also a maths scholar and member of both the Andrew and Roberts Academic Societies as well as captain of the winning House Quiz team. Having achieved A*A*A*B in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Spanish, Ambrose is looking forward to reading natural Sciences at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge in 2025, but first he will spend a gap year in Helsingør, Denmark and Latin America.

Ambrose comments; “My best memory of Felsted is hanging out with friends. I hope that my gap year and university life will help guide me in the future to make a positive difference in the world.”

Niamh joined Felsted in Year 10, an all round Academic and Sports Scholar; Niamh played 1st team Hockey, was captain of the 1st team Netball and was a keen member of the Sustainability Committee. Having achieved A*A*A* in Chemistry, Biology and Psychology and an A* in her EPQ, Niamh plans to go to Bath University to study Biomedical Sciences including a year's placement with a view to going into the pharmaceutical industry or cancer research. Niamh’s key highlights from her time at Felsted include being part of the U16 National Hockey winning team and experiencing boarding life, in particular ‘creating a family feeling’ with all the girls in her boarding house.

Niamh comments; “Towards the end of Year 12 my university plans changed, giving me just one year to complete a two year course in Chemistry, which I’m proud to have achieved - I’d really like to thank Felsted and my teachers for their support and guidance throughout.”

Toby crowned his 14 years at Felsted with A*A*A* in Biology, Classics and Geography with an additional A* in his EPQ. At Felsted since Reception, Toby took advantage of every area of school life. A member of the 1st XI Hockey team and a keen musician - completing his Grade 8 in Saxophone and playing in the Felsted Jazz Band - Toby still found time to complete his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award which he recently collected at Buckingham Palace.

Toby commented; “The school trips have been a real highlight for me to get out and see more of the world and an opportunity to see my subjects in real life”. Toby plans to take a gap year to travel and do some work experience, before taking up his place at Exeter University to study Conservation Biology and Ecology, with a view to a career in the conservation of large mammals.

Toby commented; “I’ve loved my time at Felsted, but I do think all good things have to come to an end and I’m now ready to move on; I’m looking forward to my next adventure!”
