Felsted Head Boy Wins Top Essay Prize

Felsted School Head Boy, Will Barker, has been awarded the Dorian Fisher Memorial Prize in an essay competition run by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).

Attending a lunch at the IEA last week, he was presented with a cheque for £500 and congratulated by the Institute’s Director, Dr Stephen Davies, who said he was particularly impressed by Will’s work, which “showed tremendous insight into the subject and great clarity of expression.”
Will has been highly commended for another essay he wrote for the John Locke Institute and recently attended a dinner at Oxford University to accept his certificate. He also gained second place in a competition run by the Economic Research Council to forecast economic statistics, such as the rate of unemployment and inflation, throughout 2017.

I was honoured to hear I’d won the award. The prize money will go towards saving for University next year, where I hope to ready Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
