Felsted Charities Support

By Rev Nigel Little

The global pandemic has been a challenge for us all. At Felsted we have continued throughout the last year to raise funds for our School Charities.

During the very difficult times of the last year it has been more important than ever to support our charities and in some cases it has been necessary to change the way we help.  For example, as Uganda enters a new phase of lockdown we are supplying food parcels and ensuring that the Katate Medical Centre has all it needs. Katate is the Medical Health centre supported by Teach Uganda. We estimate that we have carried out nearly 4% of all vaccinations in Uganda. Teach Uganda school staff and pupils remain safe but some members of the medical teams are now having to isolate. We are providing funds to support the whole of the Great Lakes School community.

Back in the UK, we are delighted to report that we raised over £2,400 for Broomfield Hospital. We were asked to supply Safi Coffee, hand cream and chocolate treats over Easter and we were able to do this and support the building of Woodlands Retreat Centre.  The design of the building is unlike any other at Broomfield. In a similar way as our Well-being Centre promotes the feeling of ‘ being away’, Woodlands will help us care for those who care for us. The addition of six rooms could allow for meetings to be held out of the main hospital and to free up additional space for clinical practice within the hospital. The quality of mental health care for staff can be delivered in a bespoke designed area.

We also provided food parcels for the Felsted Mission Foodbank - we were able to feed 12 families for the 6 weeks in the run up to Christmas. We have also been able to support Sparkle Malawi, Magic Bus, CHESS Homeless and Young Minds because of your generosity.
