Author Joanna Grochowicz visits Felsted

Joanna Grochowicz joined Felsted pupils in Year 7 & 9 to talk about the expeditions to the South Pole in 1911.  Her talk about the journeys to the Pole and the different survival techniques adopted by the two groups, was a fascinating insight into why Amundsen's group might have succeeded over Scott.

Some of his methods were underhand - he kept his expedition top secret while finding out as much as he could of Scott's plans, but he also prepared through learning from the older technologies of the Inuit people for surviving in the extreme cold.
