Beyond Results: What Success Really Looks Like

Students are currently enjoying a well-earned summer break, so it's a natural time to reflect on everything that has been achieved over the past twelve months.

For many schools, this time of year is dominated by examination results and league tables. Whilst academic achievement is, and always will be, a vital part of a Felsted education, we believe success is measured by much more than a set of grades.

Success looks different for every child; for one student, it might be achieving exceptional examination results after months of hard work, for another, it might be performing on stage for the very first time.

It could be representing the School in sport, discovering a passion for music, finding the confidence to speak in assembly, leading a charity initiative, supporting a younger pupil or simply walking into school each morning feeling happy, confident and ready to learn.

These moments matter - education is about preparing young people not simply for examinations, but for life beyond them.

At Felsted, academic ambition sits alongside exceptional pastoral care, a breadth of co-curricular opportunity and a genuine belief that every pupil should be encouraged to discover their own strengths and interests from the very beginning.

This philosophy has been at the heart of Felsted for generations and will continue to shape the School as we look ahead to an exciting new chapter this September.

As we welcome Lara Péchard as Head, it is with pride that she is building a new future based on Felsted’s core beliefs. Felstedians should be confident, compassionate and capable young people who are ready to embrace whatever their futures may hold.

That means celebrating every success; the quiet successes, the personal victories alongside the academic achievements, the moments that build resilience, confidence, kindness and character.

Exam results may open doors, it is curiosity, confidence, compassion and resilience that help young people thrive once they walk through them.

As we look ahead to the new academic year, we are excited to continue creating an environment where every child has the opportunity to discover what success means to them.

After all, education isn't simply about helping young people achieve great results.

It's about helping them become remarkable people.
