Library
Our Libraries at Felsted offer a welcoming, safe and comfortable environment with a peaceful atmosphere that is conducive to reading and study.
They provide an excellent range of resources which are carefully selected to support our pupils’ academic studies and wider interests, as well as encouraging reading for pleasure and promoting independent learning.
There are 14,000 items in the Senior School book collection and 5,000 in the Prep School. Fiction and non-fiction books are complemented by a selection of periodicals and magazines, newspapers, online resources such as JSTOR School Edition and Encyclopedia Britannica, audio books on CD, foreign language resources and DVDs. If pupils prefer to read online they have access to a selection of books from the ‘VLeBooks’ collection.
20,000 classified and well organised materials.
Foreign Language resources
Events, activities and competitions
Accelerated Reader management and monitoring programme.
All materials are classified and organised, using the Dewey scheme, and are catalogued on the Library’s Web App (Accessit). The Web App also provides a portal to trusted online resources and academic journals for pupils and staff. An on-going programme to tidy, evaluate, weed and update the stock ensures that the collection remains fresh, up-to-date and relevant. Recommendations are always welcome and we endeavour to fulfill requests through new acquisitions.
The Library plays an active role within the school community. With the assistance of our Library Committee we organise various events and activities throughout the school year including the MFL Languages Cafe, the annual ‘Cromwell Lecture’, Breakfast Reading Club, poetry and creative writing competitions (for pupils, staff and parents), the ‘Reading Challenge’, the Inter-House Book Quiz and Guerrilla Love Poetry.
We provide support for ‘information literacy’ through the Year 10 projects and the Sixth Form EPQ and IB Extended Essay.
