Felsted Futures

Lorem Ipsum Dolor

The Felsted Futures Team provides innovative, clear, appropriate and individual advice, information, support and guidance to students so that they can make informed choices as they progress through the school.

Careers Education at Felsted begins in Felsted Prep where we are committed to providing a forward-thinking curriculum that prepares our students for the challenges and opportunities of the future.  We ensure that our students are prepared to thrive in a rapidly changing world, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to become lifelong learners and responsible global citizens. We do all we can to ‘future-proof’ our students, adjusting content and providing updates about the ever-evolving world of work.

The Futures programme includes bespoke Careers lessons, tutorial sessions, bookable individual guidance appointments, networking opportunities and workplace encounters. Students are encouraged to apply the skills they develop throughout the school to their future employability.

Opportunities

Futures Fair

Held every year in December, this event showcases varied Career opportunities, apprenticeship providers, and a range of UK and International Universities.

International University Roadshows

Normally visit the school as a standalone short event at least once a year, often including options from the US, Canada and Europe.

Futures Conference

Held annually for our L6 in June, this sees a range of university specialists, business advisers, parents and Old Felstedians provide seminar sessions for students about different courses, employability skills, application preparation and much more. We also visit the Essex UCAS Discovery Day for a full Futures immersion.

FelstEducate Conferences

Held periodically to network with colleagues and providers about aspects of Curriculum development, Applications and Future proofing. Our next one will focus on AI in applications, recruitment processes, education and pastoral development.

Inspiring Futures Seminar Series

Held half termly throughout the Autumn and Spring terms, these events focus on specific career pathways, utilising the expertise of Parents and OFs to inspire the next generation. They are opt-in events.

Networking Evenings

An opportunity for students to develop professional skills in different careers areas, by listening to and networking with local businesses, parents and OFs.

Careers Programme and Workplace Encounters

In addition to ad-hoc opportunities and events scheduled throughout the academic year, all Felsted Pupils have the opportunity for Careers Education through their subjects and through a bespoke Careers Curriculum. In the younger years, this takes the form of topics and talks.

In Years 7 and 8 this includes an exploration of different employment options and skills through our careers platform.

In Years 9 and 10 this is delivered through the tutorial programme. Year 11 and Year 12 students have bespoke careers lessons, and Year 12 IB students have a series of twilight sessions.

Future Focus

We identify 4 pathway routes for students to research, and advise them to prepare for two of them to keep options open:

  • UK University
  • International University
  • Apprenticeship
  • Direct Workplace entry

Felsted Unwrapped: Professional Guidance

In this 'Felsted Unwrapped' webinar, Louise Scofield, Director of Felsted Futures and Careers Leader and Melanie Donaldson, Assistant Head (Academic), discuss the individual advice, information, support and guidance on offer to students during their time at Felsted, to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

News and Upcoming Events

The level of careers support the students get from the school is truly remarkable and we have impressed on our girls how important it is to use the resources at their disposal and listen to the advice on offer.

Advice and Guidance

All members of the Futures Team keep abreast of updates and changes to the way we work and the future of employment, staying informed about the changing educational landscape and the skills students need to thrive in a rapidly changing work environment.

The L6 Career Talk was a good morning. I am extremely glad we attended to find out what’s on offer and what the girls need to do. You made what could have been a very dry subject, an entertaining and informative one. Thank you
