The school uses the Morrisby Careers Platform to assist students with their Careers related learning, including investigating pathways, recording interactions and progress, and managing workplace encounters. Parents are able to login to their child’s account to see their activities, and we aim to send out an Action Plan and Careers Passport for each student in Years 7-12 once per year. 

With graduate opportunities decreasing year on year, an increasing number of our students choose to go directly to the workplace - sometimes as an apprentice. More and more apprenticeships are becoming available each year, with Felsted leading the way in terms of advice in this area.

We have a named Apprenticeships Adviser, who supports each of these students with their applications, and will meet with any applicants at least three times during Year 12 and Year 13.

We offer support with the application process, including finding vacancies, assisting with online applications and mock interview and assessment  centres. Please note that the interview process for this route can be time consuming during the final year of study, including time taken to attend interviews, so we recommend time is managed carefully so grades are not affected.  

We are also developing partnerships with parents and Old Felstedians, allowing us to have unique pathways for our students.

All students in Year 10 have a dedicated period where they will go out on Work Experience. We encourage parents and pupils to try to source their own placements. We intend for all pupils to receive the government’s Work Experience Guarantee through a number of different approaches to Workplace experiences. Sixth Form pupils are actively encouraged to find different experiences in their holidays, as well as to complete virtual work experience. 

Around 75% of our students apply to study at UK universities through UCAS, and the team provides expert support and guidance to ensure they make aspirational, but realistic choices depending on their progress through the sixth form. We guide students to think about the process holistically and not be blinded by prestige - we ensure that they complete thorough research to ensure they understand the best fit for them, at the best university for their course and grade profile. We work with UK providers to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students, and are proud to have a higher success rate for students achieving their firm or insurance offers than some of our competitors (*according to UCAS competitor data). 

We also have a strong network of advisers at international universities who visit the school to showcase alternative pathways. Many of our students apply to universities such as University of Amsterdam; IE Madrid; Bocconi, Milan; Copenhagen Business School, Esade, Spain as well as campuses in the Far East, US, Canada and Australia. Our team is very experienced in supporting these applications and ensuring our students have everything they need for a successful application. We encourage all students to consider broadening their horizons by studying abroad, and have seen huge growth in this area.
We also have partnerships with several UK and International institutions which enable us to support Elite Athlete pathways in several sports, including Hockey, Rugby, Golf, Cricket and Netball. For more information about this please speak to Ms Scofield.
