Music

Lorem Ipsum Dolor

Music is a key component of Felsted life and there are a huge range of opportunities for musicians to contribute both academically and as a co-curricular activity.

From the youngest years the skills of listening, composing and performing are also taught, and many find it really boosts wellbeing as well as contributing to pupils' emotional and creative development.

Many opportunities exist for talented musicians, including our partnership with the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, with whom students can follow an integrated programme.

More information on our Music Curriculum at each age group can be found further down this page.

Scholarships and Awards

Many musicians at Felsted have exceptional talent and this, combined with the expert tuition they receive, makes it possible for them to progress their music outside of the school and later as a career.

Music scholarships are available for pupils joining the school in Years 7, 9 and Lower Sixth.

Felsted musicians are regularly selected to join the Essex Youth Orchestra, and some the National Youth Orchestra or other prestigious groups. The school’s link with Junior Guildhall brings world-class tuition to Felsted and special scholarships are available.

Working on school concerts and being part of the Orchestra & Choir nurtured my interest in music and arts management. I even managed to set up a semi-professional ensemble whilst at Felsted. My days at Felsted certainly gave me the bug for organising events & concerts and all the challenges that go with that.

Curriculum Music

Class music is on the timetable for pupils from the earliest years at Felsted. Lessons are lively and hands-on, introducing the works of the world’s favourite composers as well as more niche musicians, and encouraging pupils to explore the music they most enjoy. The skills of listening, composing and performing are also taught.

Music activities at Felsted helped me to reach my current position. While Music isn't such an obvious link to TV Presenting, when I present on TV I'm putting on a performance of sorts. There were plenty of opportunities to perform as a musician at Felsted and I loved every minute of it.
