Charitable Giving

Felsted students quickly learn the value of volunteering: service to the school, local, national and global communities forms a central part of the Felsted ethos and is underpinned throughout by the Service elements of CAS (IB Diploma), Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the Round Square.

In addition to completing one or more of these awards, by the time students leave the school, many will have chosen to take the initiative with a service project of their own. The School Charity Team develops a programme of events and ideas to encourage Felstedians to grow as global citizens. The team decide which charities the School will support and assist the Leagues (Prep School) and Houses (Senior School) in choosing how to deploy their efforts.

The School is committed to building partnerships with a number of charities, core to who we are are and our aims to make a real difference locally, nationally and globally.

Our pioneering student led charity team has developed a programme that seeks to create genuine partnerships with these charities; it is not just about fundraising, but actively supporting and making a difference for everyone.

Local Community Service

Many students choose to assist in the school or local community on a regular basis. Activities recently carried out have included:

  • Volunteering to assist regularly in a residential care home or charity shop
  • Volunteering to assist with a local environmental or sustainability project
  • Participating regularly in the CCF or Corps of Drums
  • Mentoring and coaching younger students in a specific area, such as sport, music or drama
  • Running the PHAB afternoon at Felsted for disabled adults
  • Receiving First Aid training, and learning about the work of the Emergency Services
  • Planning and running the infrastructure for Felsted Model United Nations

International Service Projects

On reaching the Sixth Form, many of our students will actively volunteer for an international service project, whether through the Round Square, through Magic Bus, as part of their Gold DofE or CAS programmes, or simply on their own initiative. Recent examples of International Service Projects undertaken by Felsted students include:

  • Assisting Magic Bus in their work with Indian Street children in Mumbai, after several months of prior fundraising
  • Participating in a Round Square service project in rural Thailand
  • Helping to rebuild a community school in Peru
  • Assisting with building projects in the slums of Kibera, Kenya

It is clear that the vast majority of students leave Felsted with a well developed social conscience, with a desire to go out an make a difference in the world around them.
