Employee Rewards

Remuneration
The governors are keen to ensure that staff remuneration is competitive. In addition to our own teachers’ salary scale which compares favourably against other independent schools and is well above that of the maintained sector, the governors annually agree on a cost of living award to all staff.

Jury Service
If one of our employees is required to attend Jury Service, they will continue to be paid by Felsted at their normal rate of pay.

Life Insurance
Employees who are not members of the Teachers’ Pension receive free life assurance cover worth three times their basic salary. The reward is active from the first day of employment and covers staff up to the age of 65.

Pension Plan
Employee and employer contributory pension provisions are made available to all employees.

Personal Accident Insurance Scheme
This insurance covers the risk of an accident happening to an insured person that causes bodily injury resulting in permanent disability (loss of limbs or sight) and injury to teeth requiring treatment, both on-site and away from work. 

Company Sick Pay
Where employees are unable to attend work due to sickness, there is a provision for company-paid sick pay. The amount of sick pay increases according to the employee’s length of service up to a maximum of six months full-pay for academic staff and 12 weeks full-pay for operational staff.

Staff Fee Discount
At the Schools’ discretion, a reduction in fees may be offered for the children of employees whilst the member of staff is employed by the School.

Adoption, Maternity, Paternity and Shared Parental Leave
An employee who adopts a child through an approved adoption agency, or a women that has a baby, is entitled to up to 52 weeks leave. Men can receive two week’s paternity leave.

Annual Leave
Employees on all-year round contracts are entitled to a basic entitlement of 20 days paid annual leave each year plus public holidays, which increases with length of service. 

Urgent Family and Compassionate Leave
Employees may have time off approved by their manager during their normal hours of work for unexpected problems or emergencies. In some cases this may be with pay. In severe distress situations or where an immediate family member is seriously ill, the School has a generous compassionate leave paid arrangement.

Bookshop
Employees are entitled to a 10% discount on a variety of items for personal use from our on-site Bookshop.

Felsted Coffee Shop
Staff can enjoy branded Coffee by illy at subsidised rates during term-time.

Free School Lunches
Staff can enjoy a free school dinner during lunch service in our School Dining room. Lunch is provided on normal working days when the kitchen is open for staff that work over the lunchtime period. Minibus drivers receive a free breakfast.

Internet Access
Staff can connect to the Schools’ Internet for appropriate personal use during lunchtime periods.

Library Facilities
Staff are able to enjoy free books and resource rentals from our Prep and Senior School libraries.

Parking Permit
Free parking is provided to staff to park their vehicle in any of the Schools’ approved car parking spaces. 

School Plays, Concerts and Shows
The School arranges a variety of music, drama and dance performances throughout the year, which our staff are welcome to attend. 

Tailors Shop
Staff receive a 25% discount on a range of Felsted branded goods.

Uniforms and Equipment
Some positions, such as our Grounds & Gardens, Domestic and Maintenance teams, require employees to wear a specific uniform to work, all of which will be provided free of charge.

Felsted Connect
Our best employee reward package! Felsted Connect is a free benefit provided by the School, which offers cashback, discounts and savings via an online account on everyday shopping through a wide range of online and in-store retailers. Savings can be made on holidays, insurances, utility bills, high street stores, supermarkets and theme parks. There are more than 700 retailers available.

Felsted Connect is also a hub of staff employment information, handbooks, School policies, health and wellbeing activities, internal communications and location of all internal vacancies.

Choir Group
Weekly during term-time there is school choir practice staff can attend.

Eye Examinations
Employees who regularly use display screen equipment are entitled to receive free eye examinations.

Fitness Centre
Free membership to our fitness centre is available to employees and a discounted membership for their partners. The Fitness Centre also includes our indoor pool that can be used free of charge. Discounts are also available at other selected gyms.

Fitness Classes, Yoga, Pilates and Mindfulness sessions
Employees are encouraged to participate in a selection of activities and events within our Fitness Centre. Activities include yoga, mindfulness, Pilates, tennis, physical training classes, spinning, Zumba, cardio and residence facilities and swimming pools. Other services include free rental of the two squash and badminton courts.

Healthcare Scheme
Following a successful probationary period, employees are able to join the Schools’ group discounted healthcare scheme provided by BUPA.

Occupational Health Service
Our Occupational Health Service provide specialist health advice for employees in the workplace.

Stress, Counselling and GP Helpline
The Employee Assistance Programme is a free, confidential and independent resource to help you balance your work, family and personal life. Available any time, any day, by phone, email or online, the service provides information, resources and counselling on any of the challenges that life may bring. Independent support and advice can include bereavement, counselling, financial, legal, illness and injury, nutrition and stress.
