Senior Boarding

There are eight senior boarding houses situated across the Felsted campus. Each house has its own style and history, but all are comfortable and homely, with common rooms, casual dining areas, snack kitchens and laundries. Boarders are cared for by an HM (Housemaster/mistress) and a team of assistants, tutors and matrons. Tutors keep track of boarders’ academic work and ensure that they are achieving a balance of activities and commitments. Academic staff are on hand in the evenings to help with homework and projects and there are dedicated study evenings for different ages organised weekly in the Marshall Centre for Learning.

Boarding Options:

3 nights: Contemporary Boarding
5 nights: Weekly Boarding
7 nights: Traditional Full Boarding

Senior Boarding Houses

In each senior boarding house our pupils benefit from the advice and support of caring and experienced adults. Freedom and responsibility increases as pupils moves through the School and by the time they are leaving in Sixth Form, they will have learned plenty of life skills to carry them forward into adult life and any future studies.

Felsted welcomes pupils from all over the world and the boarding houses offer a chance for young people from a huge range of cultures and backgrounds to live and work together and develop mutual understanding and empathy that is highly sought-after and helpful in the increasingly globalised job market and in modern adult life.

Boys' Houses

Deacon's

Deacon's is home to over 60 boys in Years 9 - 12.

Departing from the established tradition for the Felsted Houses to be named for a founding or influential early Housemaster, Deacon’s commemorates the long-serving School Governor (1931 to 1965), Lt Col E H Deacon, who was Chairman of Governors at the time of the House’s first opening as a waiting House in 1960.

The accommodation for the House was built as a semi-detached extension to the Old Sanatorium, where Gepp’s had only recently taken up residence, in 1955.

Gepp's

Gepp's House is home to around 60 boys in Years 9 - 12.

One of the original Felsted Houses, it was founded by the Reverend Gepp, who was Housemaster from 1890 until 1903. Its centenary was in 1990 when Michael Pomphrey was Housemaster. When founded, it was part of School House and occupied space in the main school building until the 1950s when it moved into the School Sanatorium where they now neighbour Deacon's House.

Windsor's

Windsor's is the dedicated Upper Sixth boys' house, where our Year 13s can focus on their exams and prepare for life beyond Felsted.

It is one of the original four houses at Felsted School. The House building was built in 1890 and, coupled with the ground floor Day Houses of Manor and Montgomery's is called 'School House', as it was originally where the whole school was housed. The House takes its name from its fourth House Master, Rev. F. D. Windsor who was Housemaster from 1900-28.

Girls' Houses

Follyfield

Follyfield - known fondly as Follies - houses a community of over 60 girls set in a purpose built boarding house, built in 2014, with views over the school pitches and fields.

The house originally opened for the Summer Term, 1929, with Revd G.E. Ingle (O.F.) as the founding Housemaster. With the decision taken by the Governors in the early 1990s for Felsted to become fully co-educational, Follies became the second boys' house to be converted to accommodate the new intake of junior girls, and from 1995 onwards it has been a thriving girls' house for Years 9 - 12.

Stocks's

Stocks's House is located close to The Bury, Chapel and Gepp's House with a garden space housing pet rabbits which many of the girls love helping to take care of.

Although Stocks's has been home to boarders since the late 19th century, it was in 1993 that it became the first house to be converted to a full girls' boarding house to accommodate the move to full co-education. It is now home to over 60 girls from Years 9 -12.

Thorne

Garnetts

Garnetts is the dedicated Upper Sixth girls' house, where our Year 13s can focus on their exams and prepare for life beyond Felsted.

Set in a lovely old converted farmhouse overlooking the rugby and cricket pitches, Garnetts opened in 1984 to accommodate the increased intake of girls to Felsted. Following the move to full co-education in 1993, extra building redevelopment was undertaken so that Garnetts could become the home that our Upper Sixth girls know today.

The pastoral care is outstanding. The school has done everything they possibly can to help my son adjust. He is now so happy at Felsted.

Pupil Wellbeing

Felsted’s holistic approach to wellbeing is to support and promote the good physical and mental health of all those in our community.

A massive support network underpins our care for each child, which includes a house parent, tutor, teachers, matron, chaplain, peer counsellors, house and school prefects.

Accredited Sleep Champions

As a school we recognise the important role sleep plays in a child's health, wellbeing and learning. After an audit from the Boarding School's Association (BSA) of the school's facilities and bedtime routines, Felsted has been awards 'Sleep Champion' status.

It’s like a huge family with 55 siblings. I love that all the year groups mix. We help the younger girls and ask the older ones for advice on what to expect in exams and other things, as they’ve already been there.
