A carefully designed curriculum
Our free-flow Pre-Reception curriculum means we’re able to engage children in a wealth of activities and experiences. Shared storytelling, outdoor exploration and creative arts challenge our children to try new things and develop as individuals. ‘Big question’ themes, such as hosting a royal banquet, open their eyes to the world and get neural pathways firing. At the same time, our Early Years specialist teachers gently introduce the skills of early reading and writing.
Specialist teachers and facilities
Our children love to be active, and every day includes sessions with subject specialist teachers to develop co-ordination and confidence - including PE and Forest School - while music and rhythmic activities help with listening, timing and body awareness. As part of Felsted School, our children have the advantage of world-class facilities, right on the doorstep.
Consistent support
Emotional security is key to learning. Pre-Reception children are positively encouraged to explore their emotions and learn how to regulate them in a safe environment where they feel cared for and understood.
Of course, wellbeing is at the heart of Felsted and the culture prioritises respect and kindness. Children in Felsted’s Pre-Reception quickly feel a sense of belonging to the school community, as well as the wider world.

At Felsted Pre-Reception, we want every child to thrive in a school-based environment, building on their curiosity, independence and confidence. To help children access the full range of activities and make the most of their learning, we recommend that on entry they have begun to achieve the following milestones in line with the Department for Education framework ‘Development Matters’.
Meeting these four areas of development supports a smooth start, helping each child feel confident, independent and ready to enjoy all that Felsted Pre-Reception has to offer.

We offer an early bird discount for anyone booking before 1 May 2026 for September 2026 entry.

We are not able to offer Funded Early Education Entitlement (FEEE) places at this time, and we're also unable to split FEEE funding with another provider.
