Prep School (age 7+)
Lower School Admissions: Years 3-6
The start of Key Stage 2 is an ideal time to join Felsted Prep School and experience our enriched curriculum. Year 3 (age 7+) is our main entry point prior to Year 7 (11+) and we can generally accept applications for Year 4 entry as well. We will consider applications into Years 5 and 6 where there are spaces available - please contact the Admissions Office to discuss availability.

We understand what a big decision it is for you to choose the right school for your child. We aim to make the process as simple as possible. Years 3 & 4 Entry
If you would like to find out more, please visit us either on one of our Open Mornings or contact the Admissions Office to arrange an individual visit.
If you would like to proceed with an application, we will ask you to register and complete a short online application form, where we ask you to upload a copy of your child’s most recent school report and any other relevant reports, as well as a Pupil Information Form. We will also request a reference from your child’s current school.
We will invite your child to join us for a taster day in their current year group and they should bring their current school reading book with them. Year 3 applicants will join a Year 2 class and Year 4 applicants will join a Year 3 class. Prospective pupils will be welcomed by their class buddy for the day and they will join in with normal lessons. We carry out informal assessments as part of the class activity. Taster days can be arranged on an individual basis and places offered once this process is complete.
Years 5 & 6 Entry
As a first step, please contact the Admissions Office to find out if we have spaces available. If we are able to accept Year 5 or 6 applications, we will ask you to register and complete a short online application form, where we ask you to upload a copy of your child’s most recent school report and any other relevant reports, as well as a Pupil Information Form. We will also request a reference from your child’s current school.
Pupils sit entrance assessment papers in:
- Maths (arithmetic and reasoning)
- English (writing and reading comprehension)
We also invite candidates for a taster day and places are offered once the assessment process is complete. Please note that all pupils (current pupils and external candidates) sit our Year 7 transfer assessments in the Autumn term of Year 6 in order to secure their place into Year 7.
