The start of Key Stage 3 is an ideal time to join Felsted School and experience our enriched curriculum.

Please note that, following a phased introduction from 2026, Years 7 and 8 will then transition into their new, bespoke Year 7 and 8 Centre from September 2027, with greater access to specialist Senior School facilities and a cohesive, Key Stage 3 approach to their school experience.

UK Admission Procedures & Requirements

Application Process

We understand what a big decision it is to choose the right private school and we aim to make the process as simple as possible. Our friendly Admissions team and our Admissions portal will guide you through the process and ensure that you know what you need to do and when.

Attend an Open Morning or arrange an individual visit
Complete a registration form and transfer the registration fee
Complete a Supplementary Information Form and any Scholarship / Award application forms
Send a copy of the most recent school report and any other relevant reports (e.g. medical or Educational Psychologist reports)
Attend entry testing and an interview with the Head or Deputy Head
Felsted’s Admissions Office will request a confidential reference from the current school

Entrance Assessments

Felsted’s entry tests include:

Maths
English comprehension
Verbal Reasoning
Non-Verbal Reasoning

The online tests are adaptive and require no advance preparation or tutoring. We will send further information (including familiarisation exercises) to all registered candidates in advance of the assessments. Exam access arrangements are available for SEND candidates - please discuss with us so that we can ensure the correct arrangements are in place.

Places are offered based on entry testing results, most recent school report and receipt of a satisfactory confidential reference from the current school. Candidates based in the UK will normally attend Felsted School for entry testing and interview; please contact the Admissions Team to discuss any alternative arrangements that may be required.

We offer two levels of Award; the level awarded is decided by Felsted School after assessment:

Felsted Scholarship - awarded to the top performing candidates after assessment. Fee discount applied to day or boarding fees
Mary Skill Award - honorary award to recognise candidates who are not yet at Scholarship level but who demonstrate skill, enthusiasm, commitment in their chosen disciplines.

All Award Holders take part in a programme of enrichment activities relevant to their discipline and they have genuine opportunities to develop talent, as well as mentoring and feedback from specialist staff and coaches. Both Scholarship and Mary Skill Award Holders are eligible to apply for additional means-tested financial support.

All bursaries are means-tested and are subject to an annual review. There is no guarantee of financial assistance as demands for support are usually in excess of the funds available.

FAQs Years 7 & 8 (ages 11-12)

Is Saturday School compulsory?

How many spaces are there for Year 7 entry and how many children apply?

What are your class sizes?

What time does School start and finish?

Year 7:

Drop off is between 8.00-8.10am and pick-up is between 5.40-5.50pm.

Year 8:

Drop off is from 8.10-8.20am and pick up is from 5.50-6.00pm. For Years 7 & 8 the day runs between 8:20am and 5:55pm on Mon / Tues / Thurs / Fri, with an earlier finish on Wednesday of 4.00pm (unless they have matches). Saturday school is compulsory from Year 7 onwards, starting at 8:20am and finishing at 12:00pm.

What Co-Curricular Activities are available?

In addition to Games sessions, Felsted offers a wide variety of Co-Curricular activities. Activities offered may differ from term to term and from year group to year group, but they may include some or all of the following for Years 7 and 8:

Art, Orchestra, Tennis, Football, Riding, Squash, Golf Academy, Cross Country, Conditioning, Judo, Swimming, DTE, Tech Crew, Board Games, Quiz Club, Philosophy

Pupils will only be assessed for an award once they have passed the Standard Entry Assessment and been offered a place. Mary Skill Awards are honorary awards which entitle to award holder to apply for a means-tested top up bursary.
