STEAM Pathways
STEAM Pathways at Felsted
The key component of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art (Creativity) and Mathematics) is integration. Instead of teaching subjects in isolation there is a growing focus on interdisciplinary learning. STEAM education at Felsted promotes the development of skills to be used in employment and life in general. It is about learning how to think critically and evaluate information, how to apply knowledge, conduct research and the development of problem solving skills. These skills will be needed by Felstedians in our increasingly technology driven world. The addition of Art to ‘STEM’ to create ‘STEAM’ is to emphasise the importance of creative thinking.
From our youngest years we strive to inspire our pupils to be curious life long learners. Specialist teachers encourage our pupils to extend their learning by challenging them both within lessons and through enrichment opportunities. Pupils regularly enter regional and national competitions, where we have achieved numerous awards (featured below) and multiple commendations have been accredited to the departments. Several pupils each year successfully embark on STEAM degree courses, many highly competitive, at universities in the UK and internationally. STEAM apprenticeships are also an area of growth.
Felsted Prep holds a Primary Gold Quality Mark for Science and the Senior School is a Silver Science STEM Award holder. We also work closely with our local community and are a ‘Rolls-Royce Special Merit Award Winner', in recognition of the quality of ideas and action plans to develop local partnerships through STEAM.
Hunter and Wallis Scholarships
Felsted's Hunter and Wallis scholarships are awarded to pupils showing exceptional talent in Science and Mathematics and whose aspiration is to study these subjects at the highest level at University and beyond.
