Windsor's

Windsor's is the Upper Sixth Boarding House for Boys. It is one of the original four houses at Felsted School. The House building was built in 1890 and, coupled with the ground floor Houses of Manor and Montgomery's is called 'School House', as it was originally where the whole school was housed. The House takes its name from its fourth House Master, Rev. F. D. Windsor who was Housemaster from 1900-28.

The House Colours are Navy Blue and Gold, the Motto of the House, which is inscribed over the main door of the House, reads: nil conscire sibi which is a famous latin saying which continues: nulla pallescere culpa. The translation of the whole quote means: to be conscious of no fault, to turn pale at no accusation.

Windsor's was home to day and boarding boys from Year 9 through to Upper Sixth, but in September 2007, Windsor's became the Upper Sixth Boarding House for Boys. It is now a dedicated house where Upper Sixth boys can focus on their exams and prepare for University life. It is located close to the Sixth Form Centre and library and is at the heart of the School with stunning views over the main school front and cricket pitches.

Meet the Housemaster

Francis Barrett was appointed Housemaster of Windsor’s in September 2011, having previously been the AHM. Francis joined Felsted in 2009 as an Economics and Business Studies teacher after being encouraged to join the teaching profession by his wife Lucy, who is from New Zealand and teaches Chemistry at Felsted. Prior to joining Felsted, Francis worked in the City for M&G investments.

Following secondary education in an all boys’ boarding school in Ireland, Francis completed a degree and a post graduate in Finance. During the holidays he enjoys travelling with his wife Lucy and their two sons Jack and Sam.

Outside of the House and classroom Francis coaches tennis and rugby. His favourite time of year is the Six Nations Championship when his support of his home nation Ireland generates great banter with the boys in Windsor’s.

Francis very much enjoys the challenge of the U6th House which is seen as a bridge between school and university, providing boys with the opportunity to be independent learners and develop skills for life after Felsted.

Meet the Assistant Housemaster

Barny Bury was appointed AHM of Windsor’s House in September 2011. Barny joined Felsted in September 2010 as Head of PE following thirteen years at Havering 6th Form College where he combined the roles of Head of PE and Director of Sport. Barny is married to Christina who has taught Science at Felsted Preparatory School for eight years and both of their children Luke & Elise are pupils at Felsted.

Barny was educated at Chatham House Grammar School, Ramsgate - where he regularly played 1st team sport. Following this, Barny then completed his teacher training degree in Physical Education and History at St. Luke’s College, Exeter University.

Barny has always had a passion for sport and played professional rugby for Barking for over four years, as well as regularly competing at a high level in football, hockey and cricket. During his time at Havering College Barny successfully coached the men’s and women’s volleyball teams to eight national finals.

Outside of the classroom Barny is a coach for the Felsted rugby and hockey teams as well as running the athletics programme. Having also completed his Walking Group Leader qualification, Barny is also involved in Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Expeditions.

Barny enjoys the challenge of supporting the boys through their last year at Felsted. Barny hopes they will embody the ‘Carpe Diem’ philosophy that will allow them to make the most of the fantastic opportunities available to them at Windsor’s House.
