GAP Assistants

Our GAP Assistant Programme is aimed at individuals who are looking for an opportunity to spend a year working alongside teaching professionals in a leading independent school that has been rated Excellent in Every Aspect’ by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

As a Felsted GAP Assistant you will be provided with the tools to develop your skills and experiences, both personally and professionally. It is hoped that the GAP Assistant will learn quickly from the members of staff that they are working alongside, in particular, learning effective teaching methods and techniques which encourage the respect and good behaviour from the pupils, and firm control of individuals and groups in a variety of situations.

GAP Assistants usually come to Felsted for a year and support our pupils aged 4 – 13 within the Preparatory School. There may also be the opportunity to work with our older pupils in the Senior School.

After settling in, you will be given a tour of the School followed by an induction so you can hit the ground running before the pupils return for the new term. The induction will provide you with an understanding of your day-to-day schedule as well as integration into life at Felsted.

The role of the Gap Assistant is to enhance the international outlook of our pupils. An integral part of the international experience for our pupils is to benefit from time with GA’s from across the world, to broaden their horizons and bring examples to life. GAs provide a unique international experience in a variety of settings by assisting members of teaching and teaching support staff in physical education, swimming, music and games lessons, school trips and in the boarding house. The setting is always led by and the responsibility of teaching staff, coaches or Houseparents. The activities undertaken are to support the School’s charitable purpose. The aims of our Charity (the School) is to provide and maintain a secondary school for boys and girls. GA’s are provided with a clear reporting line to the Deputy Headmaster who issues their timetables and ensures they have the necessary support and guidance at all times.

How to Apply

If you are interested in applying for a GAP Assistant role (known as a Sports and Boarding Assistant), you will need to submit a formal application via Letz Live (formally Tutors Worldwide). There is a referral service for those who are interested in participating in a GAP placement. Once registered, you will receive a visit at your school for an interview to discuss your placement opportunities in order to find a school that is most suitable to you – which might even end up being Felsted! Felsted School is unable to sponsor any Visa applications. Therefore, in order to be considered, you will need to hold the correct visa and documentation to work in the UK.
