Follyfield House was the sixth boarding house to be opened at Felsted. The first boys to live there chose to migrate from their existing Houses in the Summer Term of 1929 and become the founding members of the House, under the Rev'd George Ingle. In fact, Follyfield was originally named Ingle's, and was so called until 1943, when the Headmaster of the day, Mr Alastair Andrew, also took on the reins of the House, leaving the Head's house, Stephenson's, to be taken over as the Masters' Common Room. Thereafter, the House became Follyfield, after its location in the field by the Folly farmhouse (now a private home) next door. Like Elwyn's, the House originally had its own boys' dining room (the present Main Common Room) and extensive kitchen facilities. When the Lord Riche Hall opened in 1989, in-House catering was abolished, and more space became available for communal social and recreational use on the ground floor of the House.
With the advent of full co-education, Follyfield followed Stocks's in being converted to a girls' House, and in the Autumn Term of 1995 history repeated itself when half a dozen Stocks's Fourth Formers migrated to "Follies", where they were joined by eight girls new to the School in the Third Form; together these "Famous First Fourteen" were to become the new founder-members of Follyfield, which by September 1997, had its first Upper Sixth members. Further change in September 2007 meant that Follyfields is now home to Year 9 to Lower Sixth boarding girls only. Day girls migrated to their own Day House called Manor and Upper Sixth girls now move on to the dedicated Upper Sixth Boarding House, Garnetts.
Substantial refurbishment has been undertaken: dormitories, day rooms and study-bedrooms have been decorated and furnished to the highest standards, thus producing a living and working environment of unrivalled quality. The Follyfielders of today can have little idea how Spartan were the conditions their predecessors endured!
Now Follyfield is extremely well established as a girls' house "FLOREAT FOLLYFIELD !"
