Meet the Housemaster    

David Smith is a Housemaster with experience. He has been in boarding schools since starting in the profession in 1979 , joined Felsted as Director of Art in 1987 and has been Housemaster of Gepps since 1994.

David studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and art education at Goldsmiths’ College, London. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy,  the National Portrait Gallery , was president of the FTD for five years and was Director of Art at Felsted School from 1987 to 2001.

As a schoolboy he represented North Yorkshire at Rugby Football and Swimming. He is the current North Riding of Yorkshire 100meters backstroke champion. At University he won colours at Association Football, played thirteen seasons with Felsted Rovers despite being 32 when he joined and is currently a coach of the Felsted football first XI and part of the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Team. Other hobbies include fly fishing and skiing.

Currently David is in charge of Visual Arts for the International Baccalaureate as well as teaching GCSE Art within the School. 

David is married to Marta who teaches Spanish in the Language Department at The Felsted Schools.  Marta is also actively involved in the House particularly with the younger boys, helping them to settle and enjoy boarding life.  She provides support and advice whenever they need and is much appreciated by the pupils.

They have two children Andrea and David who are currently pupils at Felsted.
