In th e Sixth Form the majority of students will be boarders, using this opportunity to gain greater independence prior to going to university. The students enjoy their boarding life and use it to keep on top of their academic work while having plenty of time to get the most out of the wide extra-curricular provision and to be with their friends.

However, unlike university, students are carefully monitored and supported by their Housemaster or Housemistress, as well as by their Tutor. Some will cope easily with the demands of Sixth Form study, others will need help in organising their time and working to the standard expected for A Level or the International Baccalaureate. Parents remain included and Felsted promotes good links with parents as vital to a student’s development.
The Houses are lively and friendly places and they are very much home. Students have either single or shared rooms which are comfortably furnished. Many of those in the Sixth Form will take on some responsibility whether as a secretary of a society or as a prefect and through this they will improve their leadership skills.
Lower Sixth Formers live in a House of about 55 boys or girls aged 13-17 under the care of a resident Housemaster or Housemistress. They have the advantage of learning to live in a small community, taking responsibility for themselves and the other members of that community. They are able to take full advantage of all the facilities and opportunities Felsted offers, with friends always available to join them in sport or relaxation.
In the Upper Sixth, boarders move to their own dedicated house, one for boys and one for girls. This allows them to focus on their impending exams and provides a more mature environment for study and relaxation as a preparation for university life.
The boarding fee includes:
- Tuition in small classes
- Academic monitoring and pastoral care by a Housemaster or Housemistress or a Tutor
- A study room in the House
- Full use of a dedicated Sixth Form Centre
- Full programme of sports and activities
- Excellent facilities for music, art and drama
- Non-residential academic trips
- A wide range of weekend and evening activities
- 24 hour care by House Staff
- Accommodation with all meals and snacks in the House
- Bed Linen/Towels
- Laundry of uniform and casual clothes for full boarders
